The challenge was to try out a material that was not yet used on the market. Stone is the perfect addition to wood and bamboo frames, since stone also offers unique characteristics, which have grown over thousands of years. The layered structure of shale lends a lively upscale surface to the frames. The known characteristics of shale have caused doubts about the viability of the project. In order to avoid destroying the stone during pressing, new technologies had to be brought in to use.|
|プロデューサー||A small, family-run business situated in the Tyrolean Alps, ROLF Spectacles produces hand-made, lightweight wooden, bamboo and woodstone eyeglass frames without any metal parts and screws.|
|ディレクター||ROLF was founded by Roland Wolf, Marija Iljazovic, Christian Wolf and Martin Iljazovic who apply their extensive experience and knowledge of various branches to this project.|

When we start in 2009 we all know that we have to invent a new and sustainable product and enter a niche market. We are convinced that the young generation focuses more and more on products they know who made them and where they come from. There is a change happening out there - back to traditional craft and cultures - and the willingness to pay more for honest products.

Not only the materials we choose are good for the "human body". Also the story and how the product is realized are important steps for a good and better future.
As we mention before we try to fight against the global players, who try to force the customer to buy cheaply produced products only because of the brand. Our society gets sick and we need a change. We should ask ourself if it is necessary to attract attention only because the product was expensive and worn by famous person.
At the beginning it is hard to keep all the production steps in house. Our products need a lot of handcraft and the costs for workers are really high in austria. Between the blank stages to completed set of frames there are 78 working steps. But we are convinced that this is a long term investment and the future will reward our attitude.
People looking for something special and wanting to treat themselves to something unique outside of the mainstream. We see the ROLF wearer as an individualist with finely tuned attention to design and technology; hailing from all social classes from artists to mechanics to bankers.
|ユーザー・社会に伝えたいこと||Take no compromises when it comes to realizing your ideas of the perfect product. Neither in the choice of materials or in functionality. Try to invent something simple and research for new and interesting materials. Try to transport a story not a brand. Keep in mind your roots and culture. Do not focus on one product or idea only. Be creative and do as much as possible under your own direction.|
